I love Elder Bednar. I love the plainness with which he speaks. I love the way he invites the hearer to learn by the Spirit, with him. Hearing Him talk in Conference reminds me of many devotional Tuesdays (at Ricks College) spent learning with him. Even then he invited the Spirit to accompany us as we opened our scriptures and learned together. I love the way he teaches that the learning never stops.
In Conference Elder Bednar spoke about Temples.
Honorably Hold a Name and Standing As you read think about your answers to the following questions.
- Why is gathering important in the church?
- How does this gathering help us as a members of the church?
- How do temples help us to gather?
- How does the temple help protect us?
- What was it the gave the early Saints such great strength amidst great adversity?
- Can we obtain the Fire of the Covenant?

I'll start with a bit of my thoughts on the talk. I read the talk yesterday and have been pondering on it since then.
Today I had a few minutes of quiet free time (when does THAT happen?) and I picked up my Book of Mormon. It wasn't mine, and I couldn't pick up reading where I was because I honestly couldn't remember. I felt prompted to turn to Alma 26, and started reading. Elder Bednar refers to Alma 26 in his talk. I didn't remember this until I came to the verses that he quoted and I knew where it tied in.
But I was also impressed by more thoughts while reading Alma 26. In verse 2 it says, 'And now, I ask, what great blessings has he bestowed upon us? Can ye tell?'. And then goes on to answer how they had been particularly blessed.
It was a great reminder to me, when I really really need it, that I am blessed in so many great ways. Can I tell? Beginning to be in a pattern of thinking of my blessings and being grateful for them and the new found awareness of them makes me feel great joy.
I remember when I read this talk and he talked about the people with recommends that haven't been in awhile, and my husband and I looked at eachother and said; "he's talking to us!" It was definitely a call for repentance for us.
The thing I enjoyed about this talk was his testimony of the strength and protection that it can bring.
I also thought it was interesting when he compares the people that attend the temple regularly and the people that go once in a while in a big rush. I want to be like those people that attend regularly, and I know that someday I'll be able to do that.
